Russia’s Losing Hockey Team Still Missing After Sochi Games

SOCHI – Latest reports from Sochi suggest the entire Russian hockey team have yet to be seen since their quarter final loss in a game watched by Vladimir Putin.

Many agree the sudden disappearance of so many athletes is worrying news, but such things have been known to happen, especially when “Russians bring shame upon their country” according to Kremlin sources.

Police are treating the incident as unexplained.

‘No leads whatsoever’

The Russian team slumped to a dismal 3-1 loss to Finland, dashing hopes of another gold medal for the host nation.  During the game, and the last time the team was seen in public, Vladimir Putin was caught on camera drawing a finger slowly across his neck.

There had been suggestions that Putin was visibly upset at the loss, but when asked about the gesture, caught on stadium camera, Putin said he was “itchy” and had used a single finger to relieve himself of the “itch”.

He went on to say it was unfortunate to witness fellow Russians beaten in such a manner, but was certain “they will never play like this ever again”.

He then excused himself, citing “president stuff” that required his immediate attention.

‘Seriously, there are no leads’

No line of investigation as been established despite witnesses claiming to hear loud noises, screams and what has been described as “a series of gun shots” in the vicinity of the teams living quarters.  Police say they have yet to find anything suspicious just yet.

“They was loud banging,” recalled fellow hotel guest Alex Kovalenko.  “I go to check what is happening but there are two ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs on door.”

“I can take hint so I leave.”

Despite authorities admitting they expected the team “to turn up by now”, lead investigator Sergey Davydov remains confident that “there could still be a reasonable explanation for all of this”.

“I mean…yes it is strange for every member of the team to disappear without a trace.”

“And yes it was strange that Mr Putin personally visited the station and gave an unsolicited alibi for the night the team went missing.”

“And yes witnesses may have seen shadowy figures hurriedly leave hotel moments after shots were heard…but let’s not jump to conclusions too quickly.”

“It could mean anything.”
