UN Inspectors: North Korea May Be Developing Food Technology

PYONGYANG – The United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission have warned that North Korea is secretly developing technology that will “soon allow it to feed its own people.”

A new report raised fears the country has made “significant” progress in the construction of basic cooking facilities capable of providing regular meals to a growing percentage of the population.

The news has stirred much controversy, especially among the people of North Korea who haven’t eaten in days.

Weapons of mass sustenance

officials in North Korea have publicly denied reports they are stockpiling raw ingredients with the express purpose of making sure their citizens eat regularly.

Pyongyang earlier stated the shipments were strictly for non-nourishment purposes, but inspectors now have “sufficient evidence to suggest the leadership in North Korea have developed a basic system of feeding their own people on a regular basis.”

It was originally thought the only food production facility was located within Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un’s residence, but new intel paints a picture of rapidly expanded operations and a country in possession of enough rice, vegetables and meat to open restaurants.

“I’ve noticed a significant influx of grade A chicken in addition to vegetables, cheese and bread” warned Man vs Food host Adam Richman after North Korea was confirmed to have traded recipes with Syria, Libya and probably Pakistan.

‘Swift action is needed’

Speculation from within the country suggest the regime may be preparing for a large-scale demonstration by opening the first of a new chain of restaurants on the outskirts of the capital, which inspectors can only monitor via satellite images.

A North Korean ministry source claimed a grand opening would occur between 7am and 12pm local time between December 10th and 22nd – a launch window that has put UN member states on alert.

United States and its key Asian allies condemned the plans amid genuine concerns North Korea is on the path to not only producing food, but establishing its own franchise.

The restaurant is one of many sites believed to be fully operational “or at least 90% capability” meaning they could begin serving customers “at any moment”.

UN secretary Ban Ki Moon called these developments “deeply disturbing” and urged the country to allow the commission into the country to ensure any facilities are internationally recognised.

He added: “Our projections tell us that within a year, Kim Jong-Un will no longer be the only person eating well in North Korea.”
